When enabled, open and click tracking records interactions with your messages. Review these events alongside delivery status in Analytics.

How tracking works

Open tracking adds a small image to the HTML body. Loading that image records an open event. It requires HTML content and an email client that loads images. Click tracking rewrites supported links through a tracking URL, records the request, and redirects to the original destination. An open is evidence that the image loaded, rather than proof that a person read the message. Image blocking, privacy features, and automated link checks can affect engagement measurements. A delivered status means the recipient’s server accepted the message; it does not prove inbox placement.

Dashboard controls

Open Settings → Tracking in your dashboard and review the open and click tracking switches before sending. Configure the Google Analytics toggle in the same tab when using that integration. Check plans and billing for analytics access and retention: Free has a 30-day demo, Basic has 30 days of history, and Pro and Enterprise have 365 days. Custom tracking domains and webhooks have their own plan allowances.

API controls

Use consumerKey and consumerSecret headers with a key that has Statistics & Management APIs enabled. Paths are relative to https://pro.api.serversmtp.com/api/v2. Replace {action} with enable or disable. Use the tools list to read current state. See the analytics API reference for request examples.

Custom tracking domains

Use a domain you control for tracking URLs and open-tracking images. Free offers a 30-day demo, Basic allows two custom tracking domains, and Pro and Enterprise allow unlimited domains, as listed on current pricing. Follow the custom tracking domain guide to configure DNS and domain rotation. At least one of open or click tracking must be enabled to use the domain.

Event delivery

Use webhooks to receive available delivery and engagement events in your application. Review which events are enabled for your account before designing your integration around them.
